Too Much!

This is history by committee. There are 6 different authors listed for this book, and each of them should have just written a text about their own area of expertise. The text is dry, droning on and on, yet somehow not really getting to any point. I suppose it just lacks a voice or a focus.
It doesn't help that the publisher has crammed in so much to a relatively small trade paperback book by using a small font (about a 10 or an 8). They've also used a light ink on a semi-gloss paper which makes reading uncomfortable. Yes there are full color illustrations and maps throughout, but frankly, I would rather have a text that's more engaging and easily read.

I bought this book as part of my assigned readings. I was taking a HIST 157 online course.

As a non citizen I had so much to learn. This book was so well laid out, chronologically detailing the young but packed history of America since 1865.

It was a very interesting book and would recommend it to anyone, taking a class or just furthering their own understanding of American history.

I had to purchase this book for a college course that I was enrolled in. The book is very informative, but unlike some of the textbooks I have bought in the past, this book is easy to red and is in language that I can understand. The book is at my level.

A Compelling Story of Rising Above Hell

Philosophically profound, Nick Yarris presents the story of his triumph over unimaginable adversity. I heard Nick speak at a Rotary meeting--he was so eloquent I couldn't imagine his book would live up to his talk. Instead, I found a clear, compelling narrative where he described what the criminal justice system did to him, and what he himself did to contribute to the situation. "7 Days to Live" tells of the corruption and cruelty of the criminal justice system, the efforts Mr. Yarris took to get out of prison, and--most impressively--his way of thinking about the world now that he has been vindicated. Transcendent!

Hello, Nick Yarris, you've earned it.

I watched a documentary on Netflix about Nick Yarris. It was a wonderful, deeply saddening, touching, revealing, poignant, and a one of a kind narrative of hope lost and found and lost and found by Nick Yarris. So, I knew after listening to this philosophical mind speak for over an hour and a half and hearing about his love for literature that he would have written a book on the unique ordeal(s) that he went through. This man has got to be one of the unluckiest persons in the universe I thought by the time he told of his diagnosis.

So I got 7 Days to Live and read it under two days. It was more insightful than the documentary. It is written in a voice that is unique, mild and passionate, but full of emotions that may feed into you. Rage, fear, but most of all, Loneliness. I will not ruin the story, but it is worth reading for those who love literature, letters, and law.

Very moving

I literately refused to put this book down once I began reading it. It broke my heart to hear some of the things that happened. It takes great inner strength to be able to keep pushing and withstand the constant abuse. Most people would have been broken. Nick Yarris found a way to turn this experience into something good. I am sure there are inner scars that will remain long after the outer ones fade. It makes you look at the "justice" system in a whole new light. God Bless you Nick, I am glad you survived.

Fun Introduction to Chinese Horoscopes

Most Chinese kids grow up knowing from a very early age what sign they are born under. If you lose your temper, it is attributed to the yang side of your nature; if you don't get along with your mum, it is because your signs conflict; if you succeed in school, it is because you are born under an intelligent sign, and so on. Under Theodora Lau's guidance, feel free to delegate all responsibility for your actions - she provides a very good summary of the "basic" attributes of each sign as it is understood by the (Chinese) person on the street, and also combines it with the western signs, for added interest and familiarity with Western audiences (and perhaps also explains why people born in the same year are not clones of each other!) She also touches on how the hour of your birth will result in more refined differences.
The main charm of this book is the sprightly manner in which she deals with the subject, amusing and readable in turns. One can almost believe it is a mirror she is holding up ... how very flattering ... one wonders if she has the wily pen of a Monkey, or the charm of a Snake ...

A MUST READ Handbook for those in Search of Themselves!

Theodora Lau is a highly knowledgeable Chinese astrologer who combines a masculine logic and feminine sensitivity to her work. Not only is she 100% accurate in her Yearly predictions for different Animal Signs but also exhibits a sense of humor and down to earth style of writing that amuses and makes you laugh. It's the only book that I'm proud of to pass around during get-togethers or parties because Lau combines the Eastern and Western Signs of Astrology which we all found sincere and true. A true psychic. I shall consider reading more books by her from now on and hope to read what is in store for the Signs in the Lunar Cycle for 2003 and beyond. She has kept her reverence for the Chinese tradition and yet at the same time has an innovative view of a western mind. I think this Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes is worth more than its price.

I purchased this book based on the comments and reviews of other readers. So, I made the mistake of thinking that this was a book on advanced Chinese astrology. This is elementary Chinese astrology. Which is equivalent to looking up your sun sign in your local newspaper. If you're serious about learning Chinese astrology, then try and find a book on Zi Ping Four Pillars of Destiny.
