Grade 1-3-These two beginning chapter books deal with families, friends, and common occurrences in children's lives. Each one includes a letter to parents that discusses the book's theme and some tips for helping children deal with similar situations. When Little Bill finds what he believes to be one of the world's largest diamonds, he and his friends immediately start planning all the things he can do with his fortune. He learns, however, with a little help from his father's magnifying glass, that his treasure is actually a glass paperweight "made in Taiwan." In The Worst Day, Little Bill must spend a Saturday all dressed up in a suit and tie while his parents host a party. Many children will relate to the boy's boredom and his attempts to converse with the adult guests. Little Bill patiently endures the party, though, and, in the end, is quietly proud of the fact that he didn't do anything to upset his parents' special day. The stories are sprinkled with references and vocabulary that seem more suited for adults than children. For example, readers may find the mention of tax forms and central heating in The Day I Was Rich a bit confusing. Both books include primitive, striking illustrations that reflect the humor and action of the texts. These titles may be of interest where other books in the series are in demand, but they're not primary choices.

Imgination goes wild!!

I thought this was a very well written book for youngsters. The pages are bold and colorful with easy to read words. It is a chapter book for the beginner reader with a story relating how a child's imgination can get away from them before they come back to earth. Bill Cosby writes this book for all to learn to laugh at ourself once in a while! And to think how we would react if we were in the same position as the kids in the story!!!

Another great Little Bill Book

Little Bill finds a huge "diamond" and thinks he's rich. Little Bill agrees to share the money with his friends. Their ideas for spending the money are sweet and thoughtful. They're disappointed that the "diamond" is a paperweight but they overcome the disappointment very quickly. They play outside and laugh at how they were fooled.
My daughter enjoys the Little Bill series and continues to enjoy this new one. If you like the Little Bill series, you'll like this one too.

I received this book for free as part of LibraryThing's Early Reviewers program.

I tried to like this book. I love Miyazaki's works, and this book's cover blurb covers a lot of things I am interested in. However, it is probably the things in this blurb that I am not interested in that make the book unreadable for me.

Hayao Miyazaki has gained worldwide recognition as a leading figure in the history of animation, alongside Walt Disney, Milt Kahl, Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, Yuri Norstein, and John Lasseter. In both his films and writings, Miyazaki invites us to reflect on the unexamined beliefs that govern our lives. His eclectic body of work addresses compelling philosophical and political questions and demands critical attention. This study examines his views on contemporary culture and economics from a broad spectrum of perspectives, from Zen and classical philosophy and Romanticism, to existentialism, critical theory, poststructuralism and psychoanalytic theory.

There are some really interesting things here. I appreciate the effort that went into researching this book, and the way the author tried to tie Miyazaki's work together into a coherent whole. What I don't appreciate is the prose style:

The key words in the chapter headings used in this study—time, space, vision, the courage to smile—are necessary demarcators of specific aspects of Miyazaki's thought. However, their relative arbitrariness cannot be denied. Indeed, the director's world picture is distinguished throughout by such fluidity, and such a passion of unrelenting metamorphosis, as to be by and large unsympathetic to demarcations. In Miyazaki's cosmos, time and space coalesce in a continuum of Einsteinian resonance.

I think there is something interesting here, I just don't have the patience to wade through this. I do find the book is much improved if you stop reading the text closely and just skim it. Then the ideas come through more clearly, without needing to try to analyze the text. Perhaps I come to this book with unfair expectations. Miyazaki is a very interesting filmmaker, and I was hoping for something more accessible. To a specialist audience, this book may be just the thing. For the general reader interested in Miyazaki, I cannot recommend this book at all.

"I would describe this text as clearly written with an appropriate amount of coverage and detail for a sophomore or junior level class. The number of tests discussed is considerable, but appropriate. The text contains numerous examples that illustrate relevant, and sometimes difficult, topics very nicely. The fundamental issues of reliability and validity are discussed in a somewhat rudimentary way and without much connection to classical measurement theory, but that is probably wise for a course that does not require much statistical knowledge on the part of the students taking the class. Overall, this is a well-written, solid textbook that I would highly recommend."

About the Author
Robert M. Kaplan is Fred W. and Pamela K. Wasserman Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Services at UCLA and Professor of Medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. From 1997 to 2004 he was Professor and Chair of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, at the University of California, San Diego. He is a past President of several organizations, including the American Psychological Association Division of Health Psychology, Section J of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (Pacific), the International Society for Quality of Life Research, the Society for Behavioral Medicine, and the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research. He is a Past Chair of the Behavioral Science Council of the American Thoracic Society. Dr. Kaplan is currently Editor-in-Chief of Health Psychology and is the former Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Behavioral Medicine. He has served as Associate Editor of the American Psychologist, and Consulting Editor of four other academic journals. Selected additional honors include APA Division of Health Psychology Annual Award for Outstanding Scientific Contribution (For junior scholar 1987 and again for a senior scholar 2001), SDSU Distinguished Research Lecturer, 1988, and Health Net Distinguished Lecturer in 1991, University of California 125 Anniversary Award for Most Distinguished Alumnus, University of California, Riverside, American Psychological Association Distinguished Lecturer, Distinguished Scientific contribution award from the American Association of Medical School Psychologists, National Leadership Award, from the Society of Behavioral Medicine in 2003, and President's Award for Career Achievement from the International Society for Quality of Life Research in 2004.

Dennis P. Saccuzzo is a professor of psychology at San Diego State University, and an adjunct professor of law at Thomas Jefferson School of Law. He has been a scholar and practitioner of psychological testing for over 32 years and has numerous peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations in the field. Dr. Saccuzzo's research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Mental Health, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Education, the Scottish Rite Foundation, and the U.S. armed services. He is also a California licensed psychologist and a California licensed attorney. He is board certified in clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). In addition, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Assessment Psychology (ABAP) and the American Board of Forensic Medicine He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, American Psychological Society, and Western Psychological Association for outstanding and unusual contributions to the field of psychology. Dr. Saccuzzo is the author or co-author of over 300 peer-reviewed papers and publications, including eight textbooks and 20 law manuals. He is the president and co-founder of Applications of Psychology to Law, inc, an educational institution that applies psychological science to a legal issues and the study of law.

I'm using this book in class instead of the new version (that costs $185) and it's everything is exactly the same, other than all the page numbers are moved up 4 pages from everybody else's book. This book saved me $180 this semester!

I have read many books in the psychology field, and I thought this book did an excellent job of presenting clear and concise information on psychological testing. The book focused on the various testing techniques that are used in the psychology field. It raised important issues around how to appropriately apply testing and why we use them. i recommend this book to professionals in the field or to anyine who may have a curiosity about psychological testing in general. It's a real eye opener!Your interest won't fade out.

About the Author
Edith Hamilton won the National Achievement Award in 1950, received honorary degrees of Doctor of Letters from Yale University, the University of Rochester, and the University of Pennsylvania, and was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In 1957 she was many an honorary citizen of Athens and was decorated with the Golden Cross of the Order of Benefaction by King Paul of Greece.

As a book it's mediocre, as a script it's almost useless

The binding is too tight for me to lay it flat thus using it as a script is very INEFFECTIVE which is why I purchased it. As a professional stage actress I have used scripts from books and this one is exceptionally challenging. Even copying it is proving to be more difficult than I am used to. Even as s a book it would only have received 3 stars at best. Using it as a reference that I must refer back to or as a script whether to read directly or copy scenes from it is not functional. The words seem to be aligned awkwardly on the page as well; too far to one side. :(

Wonderful Translations and Great Introductory Material

Edith Hamilton's choices for this fine small collection of Greek Plays includes two selections from Aeschylus and Euripide's Trojan Women. Her brief but insightful analysis introducing each play is alone worth the price of this book. It is clear she favors Euripide's and her exposition of the Trojan Women as the greatest of all Anti- War literature is thought provoking and a wonderful way to introduce the reader to the play that follows. I've had this book for many years and have returned to it numerous times. These are works that have as much meaning today as they did to their Greek audiences over 2,500 years ago. Quite an achievement.

I originally purchased "When Everything Changes, Change Everything" because of the title. I was curious to see if it was true. What I found was that it was. Like his books "Conversation with God" it leads the reader to ask questions that could result in changes in the reader's life. He gives the reader clear instructions on how to make these changes and why. I recommend this to anyone who seeks to improve their life.

Action, Adventure and Love- mixed so well!!

so this is book 4 of the Alpha and Omega series, it is the second half of book 3 of Trey and Sadie. if you are wondering about reading this book, I have to tell you, I have read a lot of shifter books, but this series truly made me fall in love. the way this author describes the love between these couples is so refreshing and strong. Yes, it's very sexy and adventurous- it will definitely make your toes curl in delight and keep you on the edge of your seat- but before you dive into this book, make sure you start at book one so you are caught up with what's going on.

some reviews I have seen on here are not impressed with the book, but trust me on this- read all four and I promise you will NOT be disappointed with the series. so just to give a quick summary without giving anything away... this book focuses on the second half of Tray and Sadie from "Vampire Mine" as well as leads into other relationships, this book is really the meat of Trey and Sadie's story. The suspense really paves the way for the next book, making you really involved and get close to a new destined couple. this book makes you feel what they feel, making you submerged in with the characters, and making you want more.. this book is a teaser to what's to come, and I am soo excited to see the fruits of this labor that will generate as a result of this book.

the thing I love most about this author is that she makes the characters so raw and real. she also has this way of drawing you into these characters and their relationships. Each character is unique and unforgettable, even now when I read other shifter books, I find myself constantly comparing them to how this series has made me feel. you really do fall in love, because of this particular series, I have read all of her other books and have found my new diamond in the rough... I am sooooo happy I ran into this author's books, and I am a reader of hers for life!

Loooooved it!

So this one picks up from Vampire Mine. Trey & Sadie are both settling in as Alpha & Lupa of the pack but the danger hasn't gone away yet. It's everywhere now. They don't know who to trust. Aline Hunter definitely had me at the edge of my seat, flipping pages trying to find out what's going to happen next!! All the characters (and new ones) are all present in this book. They all have important roles..aside from Emory & Mary, I felt like they were just there. Diskant is the a-hole he's always been but Ava has become the character I liked again from before Vampire Mine. Leah finally grew a backbone. Nathan..poor Nathan. We're finally seeing who Aldon Frost really is. I felt like his bride was the annoying version of Leah before. Hopefully that turns around when we get to Aldon's book. Oh and then there are his brothers! Cade..OMG..has Cade found love again?? I was never a fan of books with multiple storylines & different POV from supporting characters but Aline has made it work so well together. I can't wait for the next one. Please hurry!! LoL

Absolutely Amazing!!

If I could give this book more stars I would. This series is fantastic! I am already impatiently awaiting the next book. I like that while it follows up with the characters we already know and love, it brings into focus characters that were in the background and gives them depth and their own stories. I truly cannot think of anything I would change about these books. The plot, characters and writing are impeccable. Not to mention the sex scenes are unbelievably HOT. You definitely need to start at the beginning with Omega Mine. You will NOT be disappointed. Well done Ms. Hunter!!

Grade 4 Up-This recording of A Christmas Carol is a pleasant way to spend a few hours during the holiday season. Although abridged, it retains the spirit and language of Dickens' original manuscript. Anton Lesser gives a superb performance as the narrator and the voices of the characters, especially when portraying the Cratchit family, the Christmas Spirits and the London dialects. All characters are easily understood. Appropriate music begins and ends each cassette. This enjoyable retelling would be especially appropriate for family listening and a special treat for English literature classes.

Possibly the best "Christmas Carol" ever

Many versions of Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol" are actually abridgements (done more or less smoothly) but this version is complete and unabridged. Even if you think you are familiar with the book you may find upon reading this one that you previously had read a shortened version! The completeness of this volume would be reason enough to add it to your library, but the quality of the pages, typeface, and above all the lovely illustrations scattered throughout further commend it. I have bought copies for all 3 of my grown children--because every family deserves to own a complete version of this classic story and this one is the best I have ever seen.

Read the book the way Dickens wrote it..........

I hope all readers take time to read A CHRISTMAS CAROL in the original language Dickens used in the 1840's. Dickens' language remains humorous, descriptive and insightful and not inaccessible to most modern readers especially with the use of a good glossary. This is a great read aloud for families at Christmas time and also a great introduction to Dickens and other Victorian writers. Don't settle for an abridged version. Read this masterpiece the way it was intended

I collect "A Christmas Carol" and this is a particularly lovely volume. The illustrations are wonderful and the overall quality, printing, binding and paper, is terrific. This is definitely in my top three favorites of all the different versions I own.
