I really like the ideas inside this book.

I bought this also as a gift for my old friend who is working in a church and he is very excited about this book ,

because nowadays a lot of people is changing beliefs or go very rare at the church . Sometimes they even forgot about their faith and no longer attend the church.

Whether they forget about God or simply they don't understand the practicals or the rituals , this book is a complete perfect guide for leaders who wants to keep

their people close. Following the useful steps inside it , as a church leader you will, for sure , have a great retention in your church .

Retention 101 is all about retaining members in the church. This is a very clear step by step guide on what you should do to get people to come and to continue to come and be apart of the church and form a community. I feel that this book is a great tool and can be applied to other things like community-based organizations. I do go to church, but I plan on implementing these steps with my organization.

Very good

One needs to read the introduction to get how the 'gist' of the book works. That said, this is outstanding. I found every account fascinating. Even if what each soldier said is a 'composite', I am confident that the overall reaction was accurate. The only reason that I would think such a thing was a very small section written about a 'artistic liberty' taken about a soldier defending "Gold" Beach with his ability and height when interviewed in 1944 for a magazine for which the author was working. That said, I didn't get the impression that anything was added for dramatic effect. On the contrary, I am sure that some memories would have liked to have been erased.
This is a quick read, with each Beach represented and the time goes quickly. I read about a 'Beach and a half a day'.
One warning: The accounts are VERY intense and graphic. Be prepared.

A must read for those who truly wish to understand...

If like me, you are still trying to comprehend the causes and devastating effects of World War II, this record of personal battle line experiences is a must read. But be prepared for a very intimate and potentially disturbing experience. Nothing is glorified. It's simply recounted.

Wow! Get ready for a great new perspective to WWII and D Day specifically. This is a series of interviews of various German soldiers on the Atlantic front. The first stunning fact is they could not believe the British and Americans wanted to attack them when the real war was with the Russians. Additionally they felt like the French people supported them and didn't want the destruction. They were DEFENDING the French and the United Europe! There was acknowledgement that not all were in favor but a specific number were. What a statement here about the Nazi propaganda and there is discussion of this. When soldiers are encountered they are completely surprised by their resolve and anger. It is truly a fascinating read. It's also interesting to hear of their defenses: how in some cases it was very good and some, not good at all.

The most SHOCKING statement was their amazement at the Ally weapons. Due to limited resources, German troops always traveled with horses to transport equipment and save fuel. The fact that the Allies had no horses at all bewildered them.

The fighting here is intense and tales of the embardment from the other side shows that our weaponry and air superiority completely overwhelmed the Germans. But listening to some of these men describe the horrific discussion of death and body destruction by flame throwers and incendiary bombs is just tragic.

Bittersweet and Haunting

In his introduction, John Bergin writes, “One day you are going to lose everything you have. Nothing will prepare you for that day. Not faith… not religion… nothing. When someone you love dies, you will know emptiness… You will know what it is to be completely and utterly alone. You will never forget and never forgive….So, if anything, at least take this lesson from The Crow: think about what you have to lose.” The narrative served as J. O’Barr’s way to deal with his grief following a loss and he fills his story with images and poetry of pain and grieving. The Crow not only wants revenge on those who caused him pain in life, but on a world that would allow such pain to exist. O’Barr’s use of high-contrast black and white creates a certain film noir feel, much like Raymond Chandler’s work (itself referenced in Robyn Hitchcock’s “Raymond Chandler Evening,” which O’Barr quotes), helps to portray this bleak world where life is disposable. O’Barr portrays the Crow and other characters with overly large eyes, the better to make them more expressive, and the Crow himself appears androgynous in many scenes, unlike other male superheroes, so that what matters most about him is his pain rather than his manliness. His violent response is not an extension of masculinity, but, to paraphrase Thomas Szasz’s quote about insanity, the only sane reaction to a violent world. Finally, like Eastman and Laird’s "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", O’Barr’s The Crow depicts violence and bodies in motion in a manner that would later pervade the comics of the 1990s, but that features a certain amount of restraint in the 1980s. Later artists like Rob Liefeld would exaggerate this style to the point of absurdity, but these early independent artists exercised a comparative level of restraint, using the art to tell the story rather than writing the story to showcase the art.

About the Author

Patrick Nolan is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of South Carolina. An NDEA Title IV Fellow at Temple University, he has been recognized several times by his students as "one who has made a difference." In addition, in November of 2002 he received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Alpha Chapter of the Mortar Board (Honors College), and in May 2005 he received the student-nominated Two Thumbs Up Award from Disability Services.

Gerhard Lenski is Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and author of Ecological-Evolutionary Theory (2005), Power and Privilege (1966), and The Religious Factor (1961). He has been the recipient of the University of Michigan's Award for Teaching Excellence (1959), a Guggenheim Fellowship (1972-73), and the ASA's Career of Distinguished Scholarship Award (2002).

Fredrica Edward grew up in country Australia speaking cant terms straight from the Regency period, which are now disappearing from use due to the globalization of English via television and movies. Her husband teases her on how easily she can still drop into the vernacular if she meets an old timer, but as he once used the word "gammon" in polite conversation - a term only used by highwaymen in Georgette Heyer novels; she pays him no heed. Fredrica spent her summer holidays with her great aunt, a modern miss who learnt to drive a car, and conveyed her husband to the pub once a week when he became too old to get on a horse. Fred first read Pride and Prejudice at fifteen and thought it very entertaining. She next read it at thirty and thought it a work of genius.

I'm glad I did - I was not disappointed

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I was skeptical because the cover art screams "bad fan fiction." However, I decided to give it a chance because the premise was appealing. I'm glad I did - I was not disappointed. It is well-written and engaged my attention for the entirety, which is rare for variations of this length.

PROS:
There is a great deal of humor in this book. These humorous scenes really added to my enjoyment of the work as it made all the minor characters more endearing (rather than annoying as I usually find them). The humor is very tasteful and witty - not the ridiculous variety that makes you roll your eyes and put the book down in disgust.

I love that Elizabeth is independent and resourceful, looking to useful employment, as opposed to marriage, for contentment. Now, before you object to the unrealistic idea of a gentleman's daughter finding employment, it is addressed in the book to satisfaction. Lizzy's "occupation" was one of my favorite elements of this book. This idea touches upon a women's loss of freedom and independence upon marriage.

I usually shy away from stories that center on Darcy wanting Elizabeth to be his mistress. It is distasteful and makes him irreversibly undesirable in my book. I was curious about how the author would "make it right" in the end. It seems impossible for Darcy to redeem himself after making such a disgusting proposition. However, this author did a fairly good job of it. This also allowed for an interesting segue into the topic of the double standard between genders regarding sex.

CONS
Most of the book is a re-telling of the Jane Austen original with small tweaks. Obviously, I love the original but am looking for new twists when I read variations. It made for a bit of a boring read in the middle. I don't know how JAFF authors can really get around this issue though...

Elizabeth's change of heart to accept Darcy came much too abruptly. She was pretty much disgusted, insulted, and dead-set against him right up until she up and accepted his second proposal. This is strange considering how well-evolved the remainder of the story is.

I like epilogues. The author explains at the end why she excluded it from her book and that it can be found online; however, I really wish she would have just included it. She made mention of possibly writing a continuation and I hope she does. I would definitely read it! Also, the author should consider new cover art. It does not at all reflect the quality you find inside.

Unique and Imaginative

Loved this one! It was long and well written, very few typos. I've been a review slacker lately, just giving stars at the end of the Kindle version if it was a 3 or 4 stars in my opinion. Had to review this one! The author really used her imagination and mixed things up, really unique plot turns. There were sex scene's but not overly so, I enjoyed them. The author did not follow J.A. cannon, but that is one of the reasons I loved it. This was a real gold mine in this genre to me, quite out of the ordinary. I hope the author does a follow up, she seems to have barely scratched the surface here and has left lots of story room to follow.
Highly recommend for Austen fanfic lovers

Interesting new take on some of our favorite characters

Very enjoyable and unique read overall. Have yet to read a P and P variation quite like it. The Darcy and Elizabeth characters are somewhat different from their original selves, but in some very interesting ways. Lizzy is strong as ever, but she is more serious in this book, with less interest in parties, poetry or marriage. Darcy appears to be written a bit younger with something of a teenager's labido. We get to see sides of Darcy that would not have been discussed in the original. If you prefer to believe Darcy was saving himself for marriage, this is not the book for you. There were some editing problems, but I did not find them too distracting. Other than Darcy coming off as quite the rake at times, the book is very entertaining, and some of the main characters evolve in unexpected ways. It does alter from the original storyline quite a bit. No elopement for one.

The get rich in 10 to 15 year plan. Excellent book.

I must admit that this is not a get rich quick plan. This books shows a simplified, easy to read, excellent 10 to 15 year get rich plan, through long term real estate investing. The author never suggests that you will become rich overnight. The book starts with some basic ideas and continues to give many examples of nothing down purchases, negotiating hints, financing hints, creative financing hints and much more. The best part about this book is that you learn to invest with o.p.m. (other peoples money). I can honestly say that I have used many of Robert Allen's techniques over the past few years and believe me, they work! I must have read this book 20 or 30 times and each time I learn more techniques and motivate myself. I read many books about investing "Charles Givens, Gordon Pape, David Chilton, Discounted second mortgages etc etc etc etc. When Robert Allen talks about nothing down real estate investing he means nothing down. My purchases were made with 100% financing and I even borrowed enough to cover the closing costs. This is by far the best. A must read for any real estate investor.

The best--looking forward to Nothing Down 2000!

I read this book back in the 80's and it was great. I bought several income producing rnetal properties. I also used this in the early 90's when Clinon-omics created numerous foreclosures and downsizing. I was able to help people save their credit while finding income opportunities for myself.
Robert Allens system works. It worked in the 70's. It worked in the 80's It worked in the 90's and oh by the way, it's still working now. I know because I am still using these techniques.

Nothing Down is the all time real estate classic and still selling for only one reason--It works.
There are other books out there written by non real estate investors who just like to write books. Allen is a real estate investor. This book is for real estate investors who want to know what works, not theory on what might work.
I highly recommend Nothing Down. It's the best. Also recommend anything else written by Robert Allen that you can get your hands. It has not been nicknamed "The Millionaire Teacher" by his students for nothing. HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.
