An excellent complement to the library of classic quantum optics books

Essentially every student learns quantum optics from several classic quantum optics books. The intrinsic nature of any classics is that their content is time-translationally invariant, and therefore could not cover many important advances which took place in the field of quantum optics in the past decade. The book by Dr. Agarwal is an excellent complement to the library of classic quantum optics books to bridge this gap. The book provides lucid descriptions, accessible to beginning graduate students, to several modern research topics such as cavity quantum electrodynamics and quantum optical effects in nano-mechanical systems. It is certain that the book will have a strong influence on next-generation researchers on quantum optics.

THE LANGUAGE SHAKESPEARE SPAKE

This is written for scholars and I am not a scholar, being a novelist and screenwriter. I got it because I'm writing a series of SF novels - Starship Home and Starship World are now in Kindle and I'm working on the third in the series - in which one of the main characters was born in 1511 and speaks Early Modern English. My guides have been Shakespeare, the King James Bible and Cranmer's 1549 Book of Common Prayer but Charles Barber's book is an excellent addition. A companion volume is Terttu Nevalainen's An Introduction to Early Modern English.

A clear, interesting, general review

This is a readable and helpful book on Early Modern English. It approaches the topic from different angles so the reader comes away with a well-rounded understanding. The chapters cover such topics as how attitudes to English changed over the centuries (first regarded as "barbarous", then as an eloquent language), the development of grammar, and the changes of meanings of words. There are helpful examples.

From my own study of Early Modern English documents, I found Barber's conclusions to be accurate, though not always complete. When it comes to grammar, he is gifted to make simple what is complex. An interesting book and a good teaching book for beginners and persons with some understanding of grammar.

A grimoire of arabic magick

First, I would like to congratulate Ishtar Publishing for its bold move to print all 200 pages in this book in color. The book's presentation is excellent. As mentioned in the title of my review, this book is a sort of grimoire of arabic magick which I consider a rarity since there are not many arabic magick book that is translated into english. So, another kudos for Ishtar for make this translation available to us. On another side, I found out that many contents in this book are already covered in Al Toukhi's Red Magic which is also published by Ishtar. You will find an explanation from publisher why the magic in this book is also called 'Red magic'. So it's kind of rendundancy for me for I also have a copy Al toukhi's red magic. The second thing that I would like to emphasize about this book is its impracticality. Hun'ts riding clinics and I enjoyed them greatly

In my younger days I was privileged to be able to take part in two or three of Mr. Hun'ts riding clinics and I enjoyed them greatly.I no longer ride but I was reminded by a friend of how much Ray's way of working with horses also works well in dealing with life itself whether beast or human, "Making the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard." brings results no matter were you find yourself. So I bought the book again I gave the first one away. This one I'm keeping. Buy your own copy its worth the read.

In the midst of clearly explaining the concepts from C.G. Jung and other depth psychologists that led to his understanding Dr. Chalquist drops, like lucky pennies found on the sidewalk, illustrations and images from contemporary culture that bring technicolor clarity to his ideas. He also has the ability to accurately represent ideas from various systems of thought at the same time as he points out--often with a compassionate humor--the fallacies and foibles of those systems.

His extensive cross-cultural familiarity with archetypal images from myth and story allows him to link them to historical and present day figures with insight, compassion, humor, and even sadness where appropriate. How is George W. Bush like Mars? How was John Denver like Icarus?

In addition Dr. Chalquist offers a summary of the work of other writers on personal myth and explains the similarities and differences between their understanding and his. He discusses reasons why our culture denies its mythic container. He has two chapters allowing others he has influenced to write about their personal myths. In the last chapter he expands his vision from just the stories we live, to the stories of the places we live, linking his explanations from Terrapsychology: Reengaging The Soul Of Place and Ecotherapy: Healing with Nature in Mind with those of personal myth.

There is, at times, a numinous, dream, or day-dreamlike quality to Dr. Chalquist's writing. This can be a challenge to those personalities like mine who prefer reality clearly defined in logical and progressive steps with the rules spelled out. This book is not a typical 21st century "how to" manual that gives you ten easy steps guaranteed to enable you to find your personal myth. Rather, as the Jungian scholar that he is, Craig Chalquist suggests, points over there, offers possible ideas and methods that could enable you to see the resonance between the great human stories and the deepest experiences of your life. Those resonances, listened to and dreamed about, have the potential to clarify your sense of self in remarkable ways--as they did for me. I was surprised at how clear Chalquist was able to make this subject which often becomes weighed down in jargon. If you are new to the idea of myth as a personal inquiry tool I highly recommend it. I gained perspective on the intersections of Campbell, Hillman, and Jung which helped me during my analysis process.

Excellent book on how we live out our personal myths unconsciously, and how to uncover and make conscious those myths. The book made me want to begin exploring my own myth, and the author notes we all have one, often unwittingly lived out as he alludes with several notable historical figures.

Many business books will give you everything you need to know in the first pages of the introduction. The rest is filler to sell books. Not the case with Get Content Get Customers. Not only is this book worth reading cover to cover, but it's smart layout makes it a convenient reference guide for any company attempting to conceptualize a content strategy for your firm. It's easy to follow and it's all in here - detailing strategies for successful print, social, mobile, web campaigns - all with success story case studies.

I can't think of a company or industry that wouldn't benefit from the power of content marketing. In a world that's changing faster than we've ever seen, consumers are smarter, have more choices, and are demanding to be educated before they buy. It's the smart companies who embrace this notion, and use content to complement their existing marketing strategy, who will thrive. Joe and Newt have done a superb job. This is THE book on marketing every company must start with.

A timely how too that should be standard reading for most marketers

"Get Content. Get Customers." is well thought out, easy to read and highly relevant. While the title might lead one to believe that it's all about the web, the book effectively ties together all elements of modern-day marketing and links them to the spinal column of the internet.

I am amazed that in a field changing as quickly as modern marketing that the authors have been able to get much information into the book that is this timely. I found easy to follow-constructs, timely examples and dozens of items which will lead me to do additional research and continue learning.

    An excellent update on the first edition!

    As I reviewed the first edition I was asked to have a look at the second of Web Development with Django Cookbook. And I have to say, it doesn't disappoint!
    The 2nd edition covers Django 1.8 and offers even more than the first.

    Despite assuming basic knowledge of Django from the start, the first chapter is easily accessible to a novice with basic understanding of python itself. It tells you everything you need to know to get your project set up. That isn't to say that it is too basic. It is well written and the explanations are clear without being condescending.

    The chapters remain broadly the same with improvements added, approaches updated and the writing style streamlined. The material on "Testing and Deployment" has been moved to its own chapter. This makes it easier to use as well as allowing it to be given more attention.

    The recipes are well structured and have a nice flow if you want to use it as more of a tutorial. They cover everything from setup, to creating and managing your models, to working with external data (both import and export), to the deployment itself.

    Attention is also given to using javascript with your templates effectively and, creating your own template filters and tags to further customise your site. (Django CMS is covered again but in all honesty I only skimmed the recipes!)

    The book offers enough new material and improvements to recommend picking it up even if you have the first.

    Django recipes delivered in spades

    This book is intended for developers who have already got their feet wet in Django and want to refine their craft. Readers should be well versed in using the Linux environment for development to make the most of this book. The code recipes in this book will make sense to anyone who has understood the official Django 1.8 tutorial. Most of the recipes involve using third party modules to accomplish otherwise difficult tasks. Every recipe is divided into two sections: "How to do it" and "How it works" thus letting readers understand the underlying nitty gritty details. Some of the better recipes include but are not limited to: implementing multilingual search functionality, creating your own customized CMS, generating PDF and Excel files, importing data from common file formats (CSV, Excel, JSON, XML) and creating a RESTful API. Django users concerned with optimizing their page speeds will find a Memcached recipe in this book. Good developers don't want to subject their web page visitors to nasty bugs. The final chapter is devoted entirely to testing and debugging which should enable developers to keep any undesirable web page behavior at bay.

The author makes a great collection of recipes to make a full website or application, he teaches how to use the framework and combine with other technologies to create complete projects. This book is well designed from basics to deployment, there are all independent recipes, each chapter has its own focus and requirements described, what makes this book a kind of the tool to make a great projects, this will sharp your hack, if you are an experienced Django user this will guide on best practices, making your projects more structured, if you are a beginner Python developer or web developer coming from another framework this book will show you the right way to do the things. All the recipes are explaining the needs, why the requirements are so important and how to use, I think this is the best way to show something, because if you need to make a specific change on your project, this will be much easier because you know what bricks are needed to create your project, isn't just a big rock, that you cannot know what is inside. I would recommend this book for anyone who is a web developer or just Python user because this book will help you turn your projects in products, basically this will turn ideas in reality.
