About the Author
Roy Wahres learnt the game of chess as a child. He joined his highschool chess club and placed in statewide competition in the late 80's and early 90's. His interest in teaching the game emerged in 2002 with online chess. He is currently a club player with a rating of Expert. Since 2007, Mr. Wahres has worked as a process consultant for major national corporations in the service industry.

Is Mr. Wahres a Fraud?

There is no publicly posted United State Chess Federation rating for Roy J Wahres. If Mr. Wahres was truly rated an "Expert" he'd have a public rating. It appears to be yet another case of a low-caliber amateur writing a school term paper about chess, slapping a fancy cover w/a catchy title on it, and selling it to the public. There are few if any true chess books worth their salt that are less than 80 pages long. Most legitimate chess books are at least 140 pages and many are over 200 pages long.

Don't be fooled by imitators! If you want good books on the thought process of chess, you should buy real books by authentic authors named Chernev, Euwe, Horowitz, Hartston, Harding, Heisman, Lane, Lasker, McDonald, Purdy, Weeramantry, etc. These are legitimate authors who know the subject of chess well, having devoted much of their adult life to the game.

I'll go to the trouble of recommending this short list by Irving Chernev: Read the first three books in order three times each to get the fundamentals down.
- An Invitation to Chess: A Picture Guide to The Royal Game, by Irving Chernev and Kenneth Harkness.
- Chess in an Hour by Frank Marshall and Irving Chernev. (Be sure to get the second version which Chernev updated.)
- Winning Chess: How To See Three Moves Ahead by Irving Chernev and Fred Reinfeld. This book is a MUST-MUST!!
- Chess Strategy and Tactics: Fifty Master Games by Irving Chernev and Fred Reinfeld.

Finding a wall, a painting, and a book behind a grille in their historical Fifth Avenue apartment, the children start to decipher clues that send them on an architectural treasure hunt. Their neighbor Eloise Post hopes that the hunt will reveal the whereabouts of her father's lost fortune from the 1930s. The man left a book of poems by Langston Hughes, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and others that lead to seven famous structures around the city. This debut novel is a breathtaking romp, focusing on the work of little-known master tile mason and architect Rafael Guastavino. Sherry's passion will make readers fall in love with New York and the poems that portray its many personalities. Full-page illustrations appear throughout. There is a majesty to the author's juxtaposition of monument and poem, although this grandeur masks some of the book's irregularities. The third-person perspective shifts in a way that distances readers from the main characters and impedes character development. Secondary figures are sometimes sketched lightly, although the implied sequel may develop them more fully. Similar to “The 39 Clues” (Scholastic) books or Michael D. Beil's “The Red Blazer Girls” (Knopf), this story incorporates many subplots but lacks a tidy narrative. Nevertheless, readers will relish being tourists on this treasure hunt, no matter what. The Smithfork children, at least the older ones, CJ, Brid, and Patrick—12, 9, and 6, respectively—are unhappy about leaving Brooklyn for Manhattan. Their father’s video-game business is so lucrative that they’re moving to a fabulous Fifth Avenue apartment once owned by the Post family. The kids are as depressed as they are unimpressed, until they notice something unusual about the place. Turns out the apartment is a giant puzzle filled with codes, clues, and carvings that seem to point toward a secret fortune. But finding it and figuring out who it belongs to takes skill, stamina, and the ability to conduct searches across the city without tipping their hand. This can be dense, but like Blue Balliett’s Chasing Vermeer (2004), it packs all sorts of interesting information about topics like history and architecture into a mystery that kids can (almost) solve. Although the way the children run around Manhattan may raise some eyebrows, readers will get a real feel for the uniqueness that is New York City. Grades 4-7. --Ilene Cooper

Do you want to read a book that draws you into another world? If you like to read books that absorb you completely, read Walls Within Walls by Maureen Sherry. When Brid, CJ, and Patrick move with their family from Brooklyn to 5th avenue--Manhattan--they don't know what to do. Dad is always away on business for his new multi-million dollar company and Mom is busy decorating the new house. When Brid accidentally looks behind a broken metal grille, she finds a large, mysterious eye, painted on a hidden wall. The three siblings become entangled with the mystery of the fortune of Mr. Post. Mr. Post was a multi-millionaire and had made a puzzle, that if solved, would lead to his fortune. The siblings discover a code encrypted on the painted eye. This is the first piece of Mr. Post's puzzle. It is crucial for the children to work together and cooperate with their friends, to solve the puzzle. They soon discover that a sinister man--who intrudes into their house--is looking for the fortune too.
This book teems with the mystery and excitement, which every book should have. Walls within Walls is written with detail and care, as you will appreciate during the children's trek into the large and dangerous city of New York. While getting trapped in dark-flooded subways, followed by treasure hunters, and escaping dangerous areas, the children make friends with many different people. The artwork is magnificent and meticulous as is the book. I think there needs to be more of an introduction to the characters and their family. Otherwise the book is packed with excitement, action and adventure as Patrick, CJ and Brid find themselves in an exciting mystery in the Big Apple.

An amazing book

Walls Within Walls is a fantastic book. It is very well written and I throughly enjoyed it. The plot and characters are very good. Maureen Sherry creativily weaves together bits and pieces to form the main mystery. THe plot has a web of many clues which make it even more enjoyable. I really recommend Walls Within Walls to anyone who loves a great story!

Solving a New York Puzzle!

A great story including New York history, famous figures and families, and the magic of siblings solving a mystery together. This is a wonderful tale of children meeting the many challenges of a move and quickly discovering that their new home has a special story of its own. I especially loved the underlying notion of a home having a unique history of the families who have lived and loved there, and how this is continued each time a new family moves in. Can't wait for the Smithforks' next mystery!

Five stars is not enough!!!

Damn Ms Kassanna brought the noise with this book....I cant say much without giving a lot of way but please read this book because you wouldn't be disappointed...In Pack, you get to see what is going on with our favorite mated couples (Fre & Rhys, Boris & Nix, Myka & Tee, Etienne & Sasha and Jaimson & Marree) as well as be introduced to some new character and new drama (that darn Seri needs to have her butt handed to her..yes people she is back and it is not pretty). You also get to see how family sticks together and the how deep a true mating goes...hint hint this soon to be mating started young :)...The best part in the story is that whole family (family through marriage and actual blood relatives) comes together for the holidays. Its also great to see how Ms Kassanna brought the children into play in this story...You get to see how they interact amongst themselves as well as the crazy adults in the story..Lastly, you get to see a pair that is fighting their mating urge..spoiler it with Eivan & Mais...Again this book doesnt disappoint and I cant wait to see what will happen in the next pack story...

I loved this book. It allowed me to catch up with other characters from other books in the series. while allowing the story in the series to continued. Her story telling and writing gets better with each book. I wont give too much away but I can tell you that another book is coming in the series. This book will make you laugh and keep you intrigued at the same time. Good job Kassanna.

Kassanna does it again

What can I say, but this literary Diva does it again. In my opinion, Kassanna always delivers in her books. We are huge fans of her works and look forward to reading many more. I haven’t read one yet that I was not satisfied with. Pack has the right balance of blazing hot characters that make up sexy shifters, unconditional love, conflict, suspense, a lot of humor and unexplainable heat! This read catches us up on the lives of some of the characters from previous books in the series and introduces us to a few new ones. There is nothing like reading about the right balance of alpha males and females. This is definitely a 5 star read. Add it to your collection, you will not be disappointed.
