This book provides a helpful tool in trying to understand how the public infrastructure works for us. It stresses how important organization of information is when dealing with a system this large with many integral pieces. Without public infrastructure in this day and age, where would we be? As an example, we often take our roadways for granted. But we never stop to think about how much work is involved in maintaing them, the volume of materials needed, and where the funding comes from. Without coordination and a strong infrastructure management database system, upkeep of important public infrastructure on a daily basis would never be possible. This book put an interesting perspective on how the puzzle is put together.

you will love this book

I got this book because I'm a reader of the author's blog, My Man's Belly. Though I'm mostly a vegetarian, I was transfixed by the range and creativity of the recipes with their unusual flavor profiles and ingredients that clearly demonstrate Pamela is a world traveler. I would have never thought of these unique combinations myself (and my palate is no slouch), and it was quite the eye-opening education in jerky since my perception of it before was 7-Eleven road trip fare. If you're a carnivore, you will love this book! Even if you're not, it's a great read with some fruit and veg jerkies that anyone with a dehydrator or a little patience would want to make.

As one of Pamela's jerky taste testers, I can tell you that her recipes do work, and the results are delicious. My friends and I tasted almost every recipe that went into this book when she was writing it. That Whiskey Pete jerky? BEST ever. Trust us. We tested that several times as the result was, ahem, inconclusive...must try more samples. Seriously, though. That's one of our favorites and there were many more. Even the vegetable ones came out great too. Buy it for your friends and family this holiday season. You won't regret it!

The Fantasy Scene Chapter...

This comment is for those who have seen the first edition and is planning to buy the second edition. TAKE NOTE:-- The chapter on Fantasy Scene (Chapter 7 in first edition IS IN THE DVD OF 2nd edition. Yes, it's not on paper print anymore and No, I'm not complaining. I just want all who expect to see the Fantasy Scene Chapter knows where to find it in the 2nd edition.

Honestly, I almost breakdown and cry when I couldn't find that chapter in the new edition, wondering why the author took it out from the book. I almost want to launch a complain to Amazon.com until I flip the book again and again and again and... er... until I saw the print saying, "the Fantasy Scene chapter in in the DVD..."

Oh boy! I stopped whining immediately. :p

Over all, it's a good book for anyone who WANTS TO LEARN PHOTOSHOP and TEXTURING. For those who thinks they know something, or in fact know it all, then you can don't bother to look at it. Go write your own book! Period.

For a beginner, I'm very impressed.

There's a lot to like about a book like this for the beginning texture artist, such as myself. It gives you the fundamentals of how to recreate a texture from the ground up without actually having to paint hardly anything! Just use what Photoshop has to offer and you can follow this book all the way through.
That would be the downside though, must have Photoshop! If you don't then I wouldn't see you getting much out of this book except the techniques, which may or may not be done in another paint program.
This is just a beginner's book because it doesn't cover anything about skin or human painting and texturing, which is what I'm now looking for in another book. This just covers inanimate objects, but it just blows my mind how easy it now is using his techniques. I'm no longer intimidated by a blank white screen with no textures, and am now cranking stuff out a lot better looking (not professional yet, but getting there).
Deffinantly worth getting for beginners or people apprehensive towards texturing.

About the Author
Allan Ornstein (Ph.D., New York University) is Professor of Education at St. John's University in New York. He is the author of more than 55 texts and 400 articles and research papers, and has served as a consultant for more than 60 government and educational agencies. He is a co-author of FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION, now in its twelfth edition (Wadsworth Cengage Learning).

Daniel Levine is a former Professor of Education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and before that at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Dr. Levine has authored numerous journal articles and papers on urban education, school reform, and related topics.

Gerald L. Gutek is the former dean of the School of Education at Loyola University in Chicago. He updates "Part Two: Historical and Philosophical Foundations" in this edition of FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION.

David Vocke is a Professor of Secondary Education in the College of Education at Towson University in Maryland. He updates chapters 2, 7, 8, 13, and 14 in this edition of FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION.

Unique and poignant qualites make this one stand out

Throughout the course of his extremely successful career, Horatio Alger rarely deviated from his traditional framework for his stories - until this one. Adrift In New York tells the story of a girl, struggling against the offer of a bigamous marriage and subsequently cast out by her guardian, and a boy, who discovers for the first time in his life that there is more to life than stealing and dishonesty. It is a wonderfully moral, yet at the same time superbly entertaining story, and one worth paying any amount to read.
