About the Author
John D. Barrow is professor of mathematical sciences and director of the Millennium Mathematics Project at Cambridge University, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society. A Mixed Bag

After having read this book from cover to cover, I can say that I am a bit disappointed. Although the author writes in a friendly accessible prose, some of his technical explanations are not so clear; a few even seem to be self contradictory. Unfortunately, I found this to be a relatively common occurrence in his prior two books of this series. However, I did find his first one, 100 Essential Things You Didn’t Know You Didn’t Know, to be a bit better than the next two.
In the book’s 100 chapters, several topics are discussed. So, as expected based on personal interest, I found some quite captivating and informative but others rather boring. A few chapters contain some simple mathematical formulas but most do not. I would have preferred more mathematics since this might have compensated for the lack of adequate written explanations. In most of the chapters one does find some association between mathematical concepts and one of the arts.
This book may be of interest to those with a curiosity about relationships between the arts and mathematics. Even the artistically inclined math-phobic could learn quite a bit from this book without the fear of being encumbered by mathematical formulas.

"All the rooms with numbers like 6, 10

For a book with "Math" in the title, it contains too many math mistakes. To give an obvious example, in chapter 98 on page 271: "All the rooms with numbers like 6, 10, and 12, which cannot be written as 2^m x 3^n, will be left empty". As a matter of fact, 6 and 12 CAN be written as 2^m x 3^n.

Painful book to read with just a few interesting facts burried in it

I am not sure whether the book is written for idiots or by idiots. There is some interesting content. However, the book is painful to read. The authors seems to like to flog the obvious. His previous book was better. Give this one a pass
