The Love Story Was A Bit Underdeveloped

Kiona is a corporate spy hired to infiltrate Andrews Enterprises. She attempts to steal a secret algorithm that has largely attributed to the company's success when Cole Andrews, the owner, makes her an offer she ca't refuse. Cole desperately wants to sell his company, but the potential buyer demands that Cole fall in love and have a wife before he'll follow through with the deal. When Cole agrees to give Kiona more money than she ever thought she'd make in a lifetime, she decides to go along with Cole's plan and marries him. Both of them know the marriage is merely a short-term business transaction but they didn't plan on actually falling in love.
The part of the storyline in which the sale of Andrews Enterprises is contingent upon Cole getting married is preposterous, but I'm willing to suspend belief when it comes to fiction. I admire the fact that Mia Caldwell wrote a multi-layered BWWM love story centered around plots involving corporate espionage, terminal illness, and mental health issues.
Even though I liked Kiona and Cole, the sexual tension leading up the consummation of their relationship was lacking. By the time they gave in to their feelings and expressed their love for each other, there wasn't much of a payoff. Every now and then you'd be reminded that the two of them were attracted to each other, but more time could have been spent depicting the emotional connection that ultimately led to them falling in love.
Another issue that I've had with a lot of these billionaire love stories is that the female protagonist constantly talks about the fact that the man is a billionaire. We get it! He's a billionaire. You don't need to keep repeating it during every conversation and internal monologue. It gets tiresome. Being with a man who is successful and has resources is great but when the female protagonist keeps talking about his money, it undermines the notion that the woman truly loves the man for who he is.

Hot, heavy, PASSIONATE read! Raising the stakes with every burning chapter!

This is the only novel that I just HAD read in a single sitting... and what a rollercoaster of emotion!
Kiona "Key" Walker starts off strong, showing us exactly how expendable everyone is to her. From the prologue and chapter one, you know PRECISELY how she operates and what kind of protagonist she's going to be... and then you meet COLE. Calm, collected, and with a hell of a few secrets... each new revelation just made you look at EVERYTHING with new eyes.
I BLITZED through this, biting my nails. And when you finally find out EXACTLY what his biggest secret is, and why he keeps everyone out...let's just say I am SO FREAKING GLAD that Mia established the "happily ever after" upfront, because I had NO IDEA how it was going to come together! Every time I thought I'd figured it out, the book told me why that wouldn't work... and I couldn't stop until I knew!
And those sex scenes, god damn!
So much to say... but I'm not spoiling a damn thing. Can I give it SIX stars? SEVEN?

This is a GREAT BOOK, a DEFINITE DO surrounded by too many DON'TS! ! !

I ALMOST MISSED IT ! ! ! ! I am so glad to have read this book. I have found a new Author to add to my "DO" list if you will. This book was very well written. In fact it's so well researched that I'm convinced the author knows someone, if not she herself has been through an experience such as the story depicts. What I know now is that it's getting increasingly difficult finding reputable authors with this level of talent and creativity. Amazon, I imagine is willing to give everyone a chance to sell books, because that is what Amazon does...they sell. It matters little that so many of these tragedies are masquerading as "Books" as long as they sell. I've bought enough of them to call myself an expert on this. With such a ridiculous amount of Billionaire Romances on there to try to sift through, I am tickled to have found the needle in the haystack. I've had to start a "DO" & "DON'T" list for the purpose of weeding out the book-ish imposters. So now I only buy books written by people on the "Do"s. It's the only way to stop wasting my time and money on so much garbage. Thanks Mia Caldwell, you are definitely a DO ! ! !
